Elect Abraham D. Shaw  for

STATE SENATE Aug 2026!

Who Is Abraham D. Shaw?

Hi! my name is Abraham D. Shaw and I am a candidate for State Senate. This will be my fifth time running for office. I have lived in the district since 1967, and have been attending Elyton Missionary Baptist Church. We are celebrating our 100th year Anniversary. It is also where I volunteered in the youth outreach program. I've attended W.C.C.C.D and I currently run an automotive repair service as a Master A.S.E Automotive Technician and consultant. I’m married 25 years with two children. Living on the Eastside my whole life, I have seen many changes that have taken place, like the new Flex & Gate plant on Saint Cyril, which I see every day and even the new Dakota Manufacturing near the old Kettering High School site. While those are positive, some broken promises has inspired me to run for office once again, to add a regular citizen's voice to the problems that seems to get overlooked for political partie's [score card], than real issues that are needed in our community.

Initiatives

We have to do better for our students from pre-school to college. Students are feeling more burdened by their education than empowered and that's a problem in the city. The rush in Lansing to deregulate charter schools was a disaster, our public schools should never be a money making experiment. First, the top priorities we should focus on is making sure funding is provided for our low-income students. Second, We need to incorporate a plan for expanding certification of more teachers. Also add an incentive with loan forgiveness or taxes reduced while serving as an Educator, similar to how Canada used incentives to attract American doctors to come over there to expand their health care system years ago. Detroit has guaranteed programs for community colleges, but more work is needed to find a way for those who struggle graduating. There has to be a path to make it in society.  I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity for exploring education in either college or trade schools.

Education

Jobs

Currently, the Economy is no longer working for Middle Class families as the cost of living is continuing to go up while wages remains stagnant. Michigander's deserve living wages that will prevent them from living paycheck to paycheck. The minimum wage should be able to keep up with inflation, but it has not in over 30 years.

Criminal Justice

Because of actions taken by some officers, we finally see that we put too much of a burden on Police Departments. There needs to be some training on de-escalation of police. Police need to understand that extreme measures are uncalled for when pulling someone over for something as simple as a traffic stop. In order to improve the police relationship with the community, I suggest that Officers should actually try to reach out and get to know people in the area they patrol to build a more healthier relationship amongst the community. Ultimately this can be beneficial to the cops when they may need assistance from the public when issues arise.

Contamination

within Detroit

I would like to work on the contamination of our ground and water by giving the Department of Environmental and Great lakes (EGLE), more powers for inspection and oversight of potential hazardous sites, For an example, the location at 5900 Commonwealth St. Detroit MI. This has been an ongoing problem for years . The mouron family has caused a lot of problems by putting up Kronos cement factory in a residential neighborhood. At Mcnichols and Conant, Illegally at first ,but has now gotten city's approval. But that still doesn't fix the dust and particles that are in the air because of this. The State needs to step in and help fix this problem. Crown Enterprises has also used some chemical to kill all the grass on property they own throughout the city without notice about what kind of chemical they used. Just to prevent from paying the city or a private company to maintain the grass, since the city stop cutting it for free after many years. The abuse of this company is ridiculous.

Corporations

should pay!

I would like to work on the corporate Tax giveaways, currently now being paid for with the tax increase on retirees income and I believe Corporations should pay their fair share. (example, the 415 million in school tax money was given to build the new Lil Ceasars Arena).

Automotive Insurance reform

The passage of the Auto Reform law was great but as we now see too many loop holes were left to take advantage of those seeking economical insurance. we need to go over the whole bill to fix the gaps that still causes problems just to get a simple policy. The first easy one would be to remove the people in household loophole some companies have used to deny coverage after the fact.
